“My life belonged to Lithuania”. Prof. Kazimieras Vasiliauskas is 140

The pioneer of the strength of material and structural mechanics in Lithuania prof. Kazimieras Vasiliauskas would have turned 140 on 17 March. He was present at the beginning of the national school of higher education – Higher Courses in Kaunas; he was one of the founders of the Technical Faculty of the University of Lithuania. He created a unique school of the science of the strength of material and structural mechanics while teaching other engineers and scientists for four decades. His scientific works are the first textbooks in Lithuanian, monographs and papers included in the list of the best technical literature of Lithuania. Prof. K. Vasiliauskas was the Dean of the faculty for 10 years, the Head of the Department of Structural Mechanics for 33 years and the leader of the Laboratory of Material Strength which remains to this day for 35 years. To commemorate the anniversary of prof. K. Vasiliauskas, KTU Museum has organised a virtual exhibition “My life belonged to Lithuania”. Prof. Kazimieras Vasiliauskas is 140″ which includes the moments of the life of this famous scientist, the documents from his personal file stored at KTU archive and scientific works.
